Biography

Elaine Igoe is Senior Lecturer and Year 3 Leader in Textile Design at Chelsea College of Arts at the University of Arts London and Department Director of Postgraduate Research and Senior Lecturer  at the University of Portsmouth, School of Art, Design and Performance. She is also a Visiting Lecturer in Textiles Research at the Royal College of Art.

Elaine’s research is internationally influential in expanding critical knowledge and understandings of textile design practice and thinking. An experienced lecturer and examiner at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level across a number of UK and international institutions.  She is an associate researcher of the Centre for Circular Design at UAL, a member of the Research Leadership Group at the University of Portsmouth and founded the Fashion, Textiles and Material Futures Research and Innovation Group. Since 2017, Elaine has coordinated cross-institutional and public engagement activities in support of the Fashion Revolution campaign for transparency and responsibility in garment and textile supply chains. An editorial advisory board member for the Journal of Textile Design, Research and Practice, Elaine undertakes peer review for a number of international journals, conferences, publishers and funding bodies. She holds a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and is a full member of The Textile Society, FACE (Fashion Academics Creating Equality) and the Design Research Society.
